The new security risks: Theft and series of fires shake Eilsleben!
On September 28, 2025, the region around Eilsleben recorded several incidents that attracted the attention of both the local population and the police. A clear case of theft was recorded in the Aldi store when a wallet was stolen from a 47-year-old's shopping cart. The incident occurred on September 27 at 12:30 p.m. and police have already launched an investigation. Witnesses who have information about this incident are asked to contact the Börde police station on 03904/478-0. As can be seen from the data from the police crime statistics 2024, a total of around 5.8 million crimes were registered, of which over 1.94 million were theft offenses. This corresponds to around a third of all crimes. While the Corona pandemic initially led to a decrease in thefts, statistics now show an increase after the pandemic, although a decrease of 1.6% was recorded in 2024 compared to 2023. Residential burglaries in particular have occasionally increased, but they remain below the level of 2019. This is a topic that is causing explosive discussions in many parts of Germany - a circumstance that also affects us in Cologne.
Incidents of fire and fighting show worrying trends
On the same day there was an incident in Hohendodeleben in which two portable toilets were set on fire. Between 4:00 p.m. and 5:37 p.m. the flames threatened to spread to surrounding vegetation, but were extinguished in time. Such damage to property caused by fire is not only annoying, but also endangers the environment and the safety of local residents. Here too, the police have launched an investigation and are calling on witnesses to help stop such wanton acts.
Another worrying event took place at a sports field in Glindenberg, where a fight broke out between two groups on September 27th at 10:40 p.m. At first there was a verbal argument that quickly turned into physical violence. An 18-year-old suffered facial injuries and had to be treated. The police have already identified three suspects and initiated investigations into grievous bodily harm and breach of the peace.
Traffic controls and animals in distress
During traffic checks on September 27th, the police discovered in Haldensleben around 12:35 p.m. that a small electric vehicle was traveling without an insurance license plate. The driver, who smelled strongly of cannabis, had been under the influence of the drug before driving. This led to a blood sample being taken in the hospital and the ban on further journeys. Criminal proceedings were initiated due to violations of the Compulsory Insurance Act.
The police in Hohendodeleben had a less usual operation that same afternoon. There, police officers found an injured kestrel on the side of the road that could no longer fly. Officials showed good hand by transporting the bird to a veterinarian to receive care. Stories like these show – despite the dark side that crime brings – that there is also room for charity and animal welfare in our community.
