Burglaries in Magdeburg single-family homes raise the alarm!
The number of burglaries in our region continues to be worrying. Recent police reports show that perpetrators are becoming increasingly bold and are not afraid to break into single-family homes. How Magdeburg clicks reports, there were two break-ins in Ivenrode within a few days.
In the first case, which occurred between July 10th and 13th, unknown persons gained access via a patio door on Haldensleber Strasse. Both floors of the house were searched. Since the homeowners were on vacation at the time of the break-in, it remains unclear whether valuable items were stolen. The damage to the patio door is estimated at around 1,000 euros. An alert neighbor reported the break-in.
Another break-in in Ivenrode
Just one day later, between July 12th and 13th, another break-in was recorded on Hilgesdorfer Strasse. Here, too, the perpetrators entered the house through the patio door and searched the cupboards. Fortunately, the victim discovered that nothing had been stolen. The police secured evidence at the crime scene and are currently investigating a possible connection between the two break-ins.
A similar incident occurred in Gröningen on July 14th. Here, burglars gained entry through the front door while the homeowners were also on vacation. A neighbor was looking after the animals and discovered that a trailer on the property had been broken into. It is currently unclear whether the perpetrators actually stole anything.
Alarming burglary statistics
A look at the overall situation raises alarm bells. How Glass world reported, the number of burglaries in Germany rose by 18% in 2023 compared to the previous year. A total of 77,819 burglaries were recorded, with drastic increases of up to 35% recorded in some cities.
Particularly worrying: the clearance rate is only 15%. This means that most perpetrators go unpunished. In addition, burglars often have little time and try to get into a building within a few minutes. If they don't succeed, they look for another goal.
