HSG Göttingen defends beach handball title in Cuxhaven with flying colors!

In a rousing final, the beach handball players from HSG Göttingen once again demonstrated their dominance and defended their title within the Lower Saxony-Bremen Handball Association (HVNB). This year's tournament took place in the lively Sparkassen BeachArena in Cuxhaven, where the Göttingen women were able to beat Börde Adler from Hildesheimer Land 2-1 in the shootout at the decisive moment. In front of numerous spectators, including many family members, the players showed that they can achieve greatness not only in sport but also in team spirit. “This was revenge for us for the defeat in the hall,” emphasized team spokeswoman Franziska Crapanzano after the exciting final, which went into the shootout after a 1-1 point situation.

In the group phase, the Göttingen team came up trumps by winning all five games. Their opponents in this phase were the Börde Adler, Beach Panthers, Sandy Slayers, Vinngirls and Berritas. Already in the quarter-finals they gave the Red White Dynamites from HSG Delmenhorst no chance and won 2-0. In the semi-finals, thewurfStark team also showed its strength and also clearly defeated the DTB Chicks from Elsflether TB 2-0. Given the consistently positive weather forecast with only a short shower, the players were able to combine sport and leisure and enjoy their stay in Cuxhaven.

Full commitment on and off the field

The HVNB beach handball tournament last weekend attracted numerous senior and youth teams. The atmosphere on the sidelines was simply fantastic, and the thrilling rallies and spectacular throws created an exuberant atmosphere. In addition to the women, men's teams also competed in the A and B Cups as well as the male and female A youth teams. The Skinny Beaches and the Eisbären from Bremen dominated the men's competitions here. The A-youth also showed exciting games with teams like the Sierra Sombreros and the Black Swans.

The German Beach Handball Championship, the highlight of the national scene, is just around the corner and will also take place in Cuxhaven from July 25th to 27th. The ten best beach handball teams in Germany, which qualified through the German Beach Open, compete here. Cuxhaven has once again established itself as a venue since 2022 and will continue to see continued participation from spectators and sports-loving fans in the future. Volunteers are urgently needed to support the challenging event logistics, be it in organization, in the jury or in scouting.

The energy and enthusiasm of the players and spectators prove once again that beach handball is very popular in Germany and especially in Cuxhaven. We can only hope that HSG Göttingen can maintain its form in the upcoming championships - the fans are definitely keeping their fingers crossed!
