Food inspections in the Börde district: safety for consumers guaranteed!

Recently, food safety monitoring has become increasingly important in the Börde district. Ultimately, consumers expect their food, consumer goods and cosmetics to be safe and to be protected from misleading information. The responsibility for this lies with the respective entrepreneurs - but who controls it? As a rule, this task is carried out by the responsible offices of the districts and independent cities.

In the Börde district, the food and meat hygiene department of the Office for Health and Consumer Protection is responsible for monitoring. Ten dedicated employees work there, including two official veterinarians, six food inspectors and two clerks. A total of 1,751 companies in the Börde district are subject to food monitoring. The department has already carried out 894 planned controls in 2025 - an impressive number considering that the controls are often unannounced, depending on a risk assessment.

The variety of controls

The businesses inspected are diverse and range from butcher shops, bakeries and commercial kitchens to retail and wholesale businesses as well as catering establishments. Even the food distribution points in retirement homes, kindergartens and schools are under scrutiny. The survey now also extends to online retail and vending machines. Particularly noteworthy is the regular inspection of transport vehicles, sometimes in cooperation with the police, to ensure the safest possible distribution of food.

But as with any good inspection, there are exceptions: consumer complaints and subsequent inspections to correct defects are also reported. The supervisory bodies took a total of 702 samples, of which 59 were criticized, of which seven cases were prosecuted. With figures like these, it quickly becomes clear that quality aspects and the health of consumers have the highest priority for those responsible.

Construction projects and instructions

The department also represents a service provider and offers advice on construction projects and food law matters. Consumer complaints and health reports naturally come first and are treated as a priority. The most important thing is that the food inspection authority of the place of residence is responsible for processing the complaints. People who handle unpackaged, perishable food must complete initial training in accordance with the Infection Protection Act. Topics such as personal hygiene, proper storage of food and avoiding contamination are on the agenda.

In summary, it can be said that the regular checks and comprehensive monitoring in the Börde district are a sign that the concerns and health of consumers are taken seriously. The competent employees in the food and meat hygiene department do an excellent job here, so that consumers in the Börde district can continue to rely on quality and safety - they have definitely shown a good hand!
