A wave of news is rolling through the painting and varnishing industry! The new collective wage agreement for the painting and varnishing trade has been in force since April 2025, which not only increases wages, but also represents an important step towards equalizing wages in East and West Germany. This wage increase applies retroactively from April and is the result of extremely tough collective bargaining, which required many rounds and deadlocked talks. Growth prospects
The next wage increases have already been initiated. A further increase of 3.0 percent will take effect in June 2026. Challenges and successes
Collective bargaining was anything but easy. After tough negotiations that had no tangible success in November 2024 and January 26, 2025, the final arbitration on March 5, 2025 also failed. But IG BAU's persistence ultimately paid off. This wage increase is not only a financial advantage for many employees, but also a positive signal for the entire industry.
Around 400 employees in 37 painting companies and varnish shops in Magdeburg can now breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy the new financial freedom. Against this background, it is clear that something is happening and the painting and varnishing industry remains on a clear growth path.
