A serious accident involving a dangerous goods transporter occurred on Autobahn 2 between Magdeburg and Braunschweig this morning. The road in the direction of Berlin was completely closed for two and a half hours after the driver drove into the end of a traffic jam at a large construction site without braking and collided with the rear of a truck. The driver of the van was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and had to be freed from the driver's cab by the fire department MDR reported.
To make matters worse, the transporter had loaded several canisters of formic acid, some of which were damaged and acid leaked. Since formic acid can cause severe burns when it comes into contact with the skin and eyes, the fire department immediately set up a 15-meter exclusion zone around the scene of the accident.
