Verdict in the abuse trial: 725 cruel acts uncovered!

In the scandalous verdict of a trial that shocked the public, a 65-year-old man from the municipality of Hohe Börde was charged with serious sexual abuse of children before the Dessau regional court. The defendant must answer for 725 heinous acts committed between 2002 and 2010. These were his own children: the daughter was just 9 years old and the son 13 when the horrors began. Despite the overwhelming evidence, the defendant denies any guilt and says he has never let a child sleep in his bed. Instead, he describes his hugs as “fatherly” and his relationship with his children as “normal.” [MDR].

For many, the trial is a shocking example of the dark side of family relationships. In fact, the phenomenon of sexual abuse in Germany is increasingly worrying. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the number of cases has increased significantly in recent years. In 2023 alone, 16,375 cases of child sexual abuse were registered, an increase of 5.5% compared to the previous year. In over 50% of cases, there is a previous relationship between the victim and the perpetrator, which clearly shows that people from the close social circle often commit the attacks BKA.

Sentences against sex offenders

The case surrounding the sports coach, who was convicted of almost 230 counts of sexually abusing a girl, reveals a further frightening extent to this problem. The 53-year-old man received a prison sentence of nine and a half years at the Dessau regional court. This verdict is based in part on serious sexual abuse combined with sexual abuse of those under protection. The offenses took place between 2017 and 2020, and the court also imposed a professional ban on the trainer n-tv.

With this conviction, the victim received compensation of 25,000 euros. Originally, around 350 crimes were charged, but the defendant was acquitted of some of the allegations. Still, the case remains a painful demonstration of how widespread the problem is. The increasing pressure on the judiciary to counteract such acts is enormous and requires the support of society and politics in order to prevent abuse and provide thoughtful help to those affected.

Social responsibility

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser made it clear that 54 children and young people become victims of sexual abuse in Germany every day. In this context, calls for legislative measures, such as the obligation to store IP addresses to identify perpetrators, are becoming louder. Combating sexualized violence against children is a high priority, also with regard to the digital world, which brings with it new challenges BKA.

The current situation shows that it is necessary to find a social consensus on the protection of children and young people. Perpetrators are often people you trust, which makes dealing with the issue a challenge for many. Whether in the family, among friends or in the professional environment - we all have the responsibility to keep a close eye on it and to listen to the victims.
