Raid in Burgenland district: 6 million euros of drugs seized!

On July 4, 2025, the police were on a large scale in Halle and the Burgenland district. Investigations by the Halle public prosecutor's office led to extensive searches at a total of 26 locations, with five properties in Saxony and 21 in the Burgenland district targeted. The suspicion: gang-like and illicit trafficking in narcotics - specifically dangerous substances in large quantities. Police made a more significant catch when they seized about 6kg of crystal meth, around 70kg of marijuana, 3.5kg of cocaine and 1kg of XTC. The estimated street value of these drugs is a whopping 1.3 million euros, as hallanzeiger.de reports.

The measures carried out also led to the confiscation of two high-quality vehicles that were used as crime devices. In addition, several thousand euros in cash, various knives, blank pistols and prohibited pyrotechnics were seized. During the raids, six suspected men between the ages of 25 and 36 were temporarily arrested. They will be brought before a judge later today.

A trend that doesn't seem to be stopping

Such operations have been increasing recently because drug-related crime remains an important issue in Germany. Around 347,000 drug crime cases were recorded in 2023, representing a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year. What is striking is that around 208,000 of these cases involved cannabis, which has been partially legal since April 1, 2024. Nevertheless, cannabis remains the main player in the drug trade, accounting for over 90 percent of drug cases, although the numbers have declined slightly in recent years. The market for illegal drugs is flourishing, which further fuels organized crime. Illegal narcotics are smuggled into the country - often in large quantities - and confiscated by customs, as Statista documents.

Another raid that took place in Leipzig on March 21, 2024 shows how acute the problem is. Three men were arrested during searches there; 30kg of cannabis and 100g of crystal were confiscated. The operation, in which 85 officers were involved, was also the result of an investigation by the Leipzig public prosecutor's office. The arrested men are now in custody and the evaluation of the evidence seized is ongoing. The West Saxony Joint Drug Investigation Group (GER) also plays a central role here, as swp.de mentions.

These developments make it clear that drug-related crime is not just a local problem but must be addressed across Germany. In addition to health challenges, such as the increase in drug deaths - which were around 2,230 in 2023 - there are also far-reaching social consequences. Politicians are called upon to find solutions and take preventive measures to protect citizens and curb crime.
