Brückenkemper sprints to victory in Dessau: 10.93 seconds for victory!

In an exciting competition at the 27th Anhalt meeting in Dessau-Roßlau, Gina Brückenkemper held her own impressively. With a time of 10.93 seconds, she secured first place in the 100 meter race. However, the tailwind of 2.5 meters per second did not allow her to break Patrizia van der Weken's existing meeting record, which has stood since 2023 at 11.02 seconds. Brückenkemper has clearly formulated her ambitions: She wants to build on her performance, with the focus on the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. This is also her third time at the meeting in Dessau and a further confirmation of her class after she won Olympic bronze in the 4x100 meter relay in 2024.

But it wasn't just Brückenkemper who caused a stir. There were also exciting decisions in the men's 100 meter final. Jerome Blake of Canada set a new meeting record with his time of 9.97 seconds while excelling in the tailwind of 0.3 meters per second. Daryll Neita from Great Britain took second place in 11.00 seconds, closely followed by German sprint hopeful Sina Mayer with 11.03 seconds.

Diverse achievements and records

The competition also offered notable results in other disciplines. Julian Weber, last year's javelin throw winner, prevailed again and took first place with a distance of 87.28 meters, despite his return from the Diamond League meeting in Paris. Douw Smit from Belgium and Sindri Gudmundsson from Iceland took second and third place with distances of 82.53 meters and 80.39 meters.

In the middle distance, Nuno Pereira from Portugal shone, winning the 1,500 meter race and Robert Farken from Leipzig took fourth place in 3:34.32 minutes. Pereira was followed by Ryan Mphahlele from South Africa and Joao Bussotti from Italy.

In the long jump, Miltiadis Tentoglou from Greece set another meeting record with a distance of 8.23 meters. Luka Herden and Simon Plitzko followed him in second and third place with 7.91 and 7.87 meters.
