Wismar's new multi -purpose hall: conquer the stage for sports and culture!
The city of Wismar is about to reopen the multi-purpose hall on the Bürgermeister-Hauptstraße, which has been extensively renovated since 2019. This renovation, which has been more complex than originally planned due to unforeseen circumstances and challenges in financing than originally planned, is to be completed this year. The completion of the hall is planned for the fourth quarter of 2023, with a planned final cleaning in October and the resumption of sports in November or December. The original planning only provided for a renewal of fire protection and building services for around 3 million euros.
In the meantime, the project has expanded to complete a complete renovation, which includes new blankets, sanitary facilities, a sports hall floor, a ventilation system, sound technology and renewed grandstands. According to the Baltic Sea newspaper, the total cost of the renovation is estimated at around 17 million euros, of which 7 million euros come from funding. The energy consumption should be halved through better insulation and the use of LED technology.
challenges and financing
The extended construction period was due to pandemic, financing and applying for funding. The hall was originally inaugurated on December 30, 1970 and offered space for 2,448 spectators at cultural events. After a start -up time for sports, other events such as dance, concerts and youth consecration are also planned. The city administration ensures that the usage fees for sports clubs remain low and that sports groups can use the hall free of charge up to the age group U 18.
In addition, parking space management is being considered because the parking spaces around the hall are already 90 percent busy. After the opening, the hall is used by the same users as before, including boxers, gymnasts, handball and football teams as well as for school sports.
future use and events
Another important aspect in the renovation is the extensive completion of the stands, where around 1,000 new seating shells are to be installed. The city administration plans that the hall can be used not only for sports, but also for cultural events after its opening. The reopening is targeted for the end of 2025, as the city administration announced during a press appointment on the construction site. The installation of the system for safety announcements and the exchange of glazing is currently being installed.
This complete renovation is a cheaper alternative to demolition and new construction, which would have cost an estimated 30 million euros. The city of Wismar would like to create a modern and multifunctional hall that meets the increased need for sports and event rooms. Further information on funding programs in the sports area can be called up on the website of the German Olympic Sports Association The views for the multi -purpose hall in Wismar are promising and could make an important contribution to promoting sport and cultural participation in the region.
