Dangerous storm hits northern Germany – preparation is everything!
On October 30, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) issued official warnings for northern Germany. The coastal regions on the North and Baltic Seas as well as the Harz Mountains are affected. Loud NDR Hurricane-like gusts of between 95 and 110 km/h could be expected on the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz. However, these extreme wind speeds are only expected until the early afternoon, after which the wind in the Harz will gradually decrease.
It will be particularly stormy on the coast, where stormy conditions will prevail into the evening. In Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, gusts of up to 70 km/h are just as likely as speeds of around 80 km/h in exposed locations, as the DWD confirms.
