Dangerous storm hits northern Germany – preparation is everything!

On October 30, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) issued official warnings for northern Germany. The coastal regions on the North and Baltic Seas as well as the Harz Mountains are affected. Loud NDR Hurricane-like gusts of between 95 and 110 km/h could be expected on the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz. However, these extreme wind speeds are only expected until the early afternoon, after which the wind in the Harz will gradually decrease.

It will be particularly stormy on the coast, where stormy conditions will prevail into the evening. In Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, gusts of up to 70 km/h are just as likely as speeds of around 80 km/h in exposed locations, as the DWD confirms. Citizens are therefore strongly advised to secure free-standing garden furniture and covers to protect them from falling branches and flying objects.

Forecast for the coming days

However, the stormy conditions are only short-lived. Sunshine is expected for Reformation Day tomorrow, before thicker clouds and rain arrive from Saturday. The wind is also expected to subside on Friday night. A storm surge warning has now been lifted, easing the situation on the coast.

In general, the weather remains of northern German origin. Fresh Atlantic air combines with the high over southern Germany, supporting the production of stiff to stormy gusts. Individual thunderstorms can even be expected in the northeast. These thunderstorms can occur particularly in the northeast, accompanied by sleet and stormy gusts, around 8 to 9 Bft, as well as the platform for weather hazards weatherhazards.de communicates.

Everywhere you look, the weather situation is an exciting affair. And while the storm sweeps over the coasts, you can find other information or pass the time indoors. Overall, in these changeable weather conditions, it is important to always be prepared and pay attention to official warnings. Stay safe and maybe enjoy a storm or two from the comfort of your own home!
