Little dog Luke urgently needs help - your donation counts!
A little dog named Luke from the Harz Mountains urgently needs help. The sweet four-legged friend suffers from patella dislocation, a painful condition that causes the kneecap to dislocate and leaves him paralyzed. This orthopedic disease is not uncommon in dogs and, if left untreated, can lead to serious consequences such as long-term osteoarthritis. Animal rights activists from Quedlinburg are now asking for donations to finance the urgently needed medical treatment for Luke, as the costs of the treatment are high and are putting a lot of strain on the animal shelter.
Luke has already been operated on in Braunschweig. During this first treatment, the kneecap was put back in the right place and fixed. However, his tendons have been severely shortened by the disease and now have to undergo painful physiotherapy to rebuild them. We are currently waiting for the final check to determine the exact time to start therapy. But that's not the end: another of Luke's legs also needs to be operated on, and there isn't enough money for that yet.
Cost of treatment
The financial burden of veterinary treatments can be a major challenge for many animal shelters and animal welfare organizations. The costs can quickly skyrocket, especially with diseases such as patella dislocation. Depending on the severity of the disease and the individual treatment steps, the costs can range between 400 and 1,300 euros, although prices can vary depending on the veterinarian. Individual cost points are:
- Allgemeinuntersuchung: 23,62€ bis 70,86€
- Lahmheitsuntersuchung: 42,63€ bis 127,89€
- Röntgenuntersuchung (2 Aufnahmen): 53,06€ bis 158,18€
- Inhalations-Narkose: 61,57€ bis 184,17€
- Operative Therapie: 192,00€ bis 576,00€
- Folgeuntersuchung: 19,74€ bis 59,22€
As our colleagues at PetsVetCheck know from experience, patellar luxations are a common orthopedic disease in dogs. Small breeds such as the Chihuahua or the Jack Russell Terrier are particularly often affected. The types are classified according to the degree of severity: While grade 1 hardly shows any lameness, grade 4 leads to permanent limitations.
