City hall rally in Wernigerode: Oldtimer fans celebrate historical cars!

Wernigerode, Deutschland - A shadow of nostalgia is located above the Wernigeröder town hall, where the 14th town hall rally starts next weekend. All starting places are fully booked, and that means a plump program for classic car lovers and onlookers. Not only are chic vehicles to be admired, but also the stories behind them.

One of the most exciting stories is that of Karl-Heinz Erlebach. The 80-year-old car master brings his 97-year-old Chrysler to Wernigerode. The chrome -flashed radiator grille of the year of construction 1928 is not only a real eye -catcher, but also a witness of numerous trips that Erlebach has undertaken with his loyal companion. He was particularly remembered by a trip to Bulgaria in 1982 with a caravan.

classic car participant and route course

The rally, organized by the MC Wernigeröder classic car fans, also attracts participants from the Nordwall Classic Garage Stendal, who have four classic cars in their luggage. Teams like Gerhold/Gerhold on a Mercedes and Groth/Wendt on their VW Beetle will also be betting around. A total of 73 vehicles are available on the marketplace to dash through the picturesque landscape.

  • Start: Market in front of the Wernigeröder Rathaus
  • route: through Osterwieck, Stapelburg, Ilsenburg, to the "Schützenhaus" in Drübeck and back
  • afternoon round: About Benzingerode, Blankenburg, Hüttenrode, Rübeland and three Annen Hohne

The participants can look forward to attractive tasks at the checkpoints, and the gala evening on Saturday will certainly be a scene of exciting benzing talks, not least with the Herre family in Silstedt. Mayor Tobias Kascha (SPD) emphasizes the advertising effect of the event for the city, and you can look forward to the award ceremony on Sunday morning.

insights into the automobile myth

Karl-Heinz Erlebach was fascinated by the classic car world at the age of 23, inspired by the novel “Three Comrades” by Erich Maria Remarque. With a maximum output of 40 hp and a top speed of 70 km/h, its Chrysler brought it to a total of 70,000 kilometers. The car was particularly overhauled and repainted for the rally, but still has to deal with starting problems. Erlebach hopes that the engine will run reliably to the rally. "The Sperber", a car built in 1913, which he found in 1972, is another project of the screwdriver, which has been ready for driving since 2019.

The next town hall rally is planned for two years, and all those who share the charm and passion for classic cars are already looking forward to the 15th edition in Wernigerode. A visit to this attractive city will always be worthwhile - whether as a participant or viewer.
