Renaissance for Henriette Castle: Gerbstedt citizens fight to preserve it!

In the small town of Gerbstedt, not far from Halle, there is the picturesque Henriette Castle in Helmsdorf, which today benefits from the very special commitment of many citizens. The Schloss Henriette e.V. association, founded by Anika Rockmann and other committed citizens in 2022, is committed to the task of protecting this historic building from decay. Particularly in recent years, during the Corona pandemic, interest in the castle has grown, which has resulted in nine containers full of rubbish being removed from the premises. The association pursues the major goal of preserving the historical substance of the castle and sustainably maintaining its park.

Originally built between 1801 and 1805 in the classicist style, the castle was at one time one of the region's magnificent residences. It was home to several generations of the von Kerssenbrock family, who not only lived here, but also gave the castle a valuable plate room in which 112 wall plates were exhibited. After expropriation in 1945, the castle was converted into a nursing home, but it closed in 1994. This late version led to a gradual decline, which, combined with visits from photographers and ghost hunters, increasingly degraded the magnificent building.

A step into the future

The new owner of the castle, a lawyer from Frankfurt am Main and descendant of the expropriated family, bought it back from the trust in the 1990s. He plans to undertake extensive restoration measures using his own resources as well as donations and grants. The association is already planning cultural events to raise funds to promote the improvement of the Mansfeld region through the castle and the castle park.

But it's not just Gerbstedt that has exciting things to offer this year. A lot is also happening in international sports, such as in the world of football in Argentina. The 96th season of professional football, known as El Campeonato de Primera División 2025 or Liga Profesional 2025, is currently being played there. This league is organized by the Liga Profesional and started on January 23rd and will last until December 14th, 2025. With new entrants such as Aldosivi and San Martín de San Juan, there is exciting news to report: a new system has been introduced, marking the return to the traditional Apertura and Clausura tournaments, which have not been used since 2011-12.

A total of 30 teams are fighting for the title, and the top eight from each group advance to the knockout phase. These developments are just a small part of Argentina's rich sporting tradition, which this year is marked by numerous successes and dramatic games.

Practical everyday life

Away from the big stage, there are also some challenges in everyday life. An everyday problem that concerns many people is repairing cables, for example when they are cut. It is important to determine the type of wire in order to take the correct steps for repair. For example, a cleanly cut cable requires the insulation to be removed on both sides of the cut, while a frayed wire requires special care. The correct procedure can be crucial in restoring functionality.

This shows that both the preservation of cultural heritage such as Henriette Castle as well as the performance of the competition in football and everyday problem solving with cables often require a lot of community spirit and commitment.

No matter whether in historic Gerbstedt or in vibrant Buenos Aires – there are stories worth telling everywhere!
