Unforgettable adventure: Günther masters the Harz in a wheelchair!
In the Harz Mountains there are stories that have been told for centuries and that captivate people. Carsten Kiehne, a passionate fairy tale collector from Bad Suderode, is a master at collecting these legends, fairy tales and anecdotes and keeping them alive. Together with his partner Manuela Petri, he has already published over thirty books on this fascinating topic. Whether on guided hikes or storytelling events, Kiehne manages to capture the mystical atmosphere of the Harz and shares it with his guests. News38 reports that Kiehne has been living out his passion for over a decade.
Recently, on March 4th, a very special hike took place along the old Paracelsus Harz Clinic. Kiehne came across Günther, an older man who wanted to take part in the three-hour tour despite his electric wheelchair. The group was initially worried about whether Günther would be able to handle the steep climb. But by joining forces they helped him push him up the mountain. What initially seemed to be a challenge ended in a happy experience. Günther described the hike not only as a beautiful memory, but as a highlight of his hospital stay. N AG reports that Kiehne also considered this tour to be one of the most valuable experiences in his 14 years as a hiking guide.
Myths and nature in the Harz
The Harz is not only known for its breathtaking landscapes, but also for its wealth of myths and legends. These stories are part of humanity's oldest cultural heritage and invite us to think about the relationship between humans and nature. The Nature Myths Trail at Braunlage offers an ideal setting to explore these topics. With nine hands-on stations, including a wishing tree and a labyrinth, it enables visitors to formulate inner wishes and embark on a spiritual journey.
The wishing tree gives hikers the opportunity to express personal thoughts, while the labyrinth invites them to pause and reflect. The question of what connection exists between humans and wolves is also raised, which underlines the cultural and ethnological importance of this region. These adventure trails are another example of efforts to keep the stories of the Harz alive and at the same time appeal to nature lovers and history lovers.
Carsten Kiehne and his groups actively contribute to ensuring that the myths of the Harz are not forgotten. They show that the Harz is accessible to everyone, including people with special needs. Through such initiatives, the Harz becomes a meeting place where everyone can experience the magic of its legends and the beauty of the landscape.
