A2 closed: cooking oil accident causes traffic chaos towards Berlin!
A serious incident on the A2 motorway between Theeßen and Ziesar in the direction of Berlin led to significant traffic delays. A tanker truck carrying cooking oil overturned and caused the highway to be completely closed in this section. The motorway police in Michendorf appealed to drivers to avoid the area as far as possible, as diversion routes were poorly signposted and were heavily overloaded. Also informed about the situation Day24.
The cleaning of the road was carried out by a specialist company and had been ongoing since Saturday. The cooking oil had to be removed over a width of 16 meters and a length of more than 500 meters in order to minimize the risk of accidents caused by rolling. Due to the danger and damage, a defective guard rail along a length of around 300 meters was also replaced and rebuilt. The exact costs for cleaning and repairs are still unclear MDR reported.
Traffic volume and risk of accidents
The A2 is considered one of the most important transport connections between East and West Germany, as it connects the Ruhr area with the Berliner Ring. This high volume of traffic often results in traffic jams, obstructions and even serious accidents. The police have to respond to such incidents on the A2 almost every day, which underlines the need for up-to-date information about accidents. The traffic accident statistics from the Federal Statistical Office show that this problem is not only important locally, but nationwide. Relevant data on accidents, vehicles and those involved help to develop measures to improve road safety ( destatis.de ).
Even before the consequences of the accident have been completely eliminated, a speed limit of 80 km/h will be set for the affected section for the next four weeks. This limit applies to a section of approximately one kilometer and is intended to help restore traffic safety in the area. The motorway remains to be used with caution until further notice - the risk of further accidents remains as long as the cleaning work is still underway.
