Bio-waste quality in the district: false disposal becomes expensive!
Bio-waste quality in the district: false disposal becomes expensive!
In the past few months, the quality of the bio -waste in Cologne has improved significantly. This is positive news for all environmentally conscious citizens, because since January 1, 2025, biotons have been increasingly checked for false fillings. As Meetingpoint , according to the new bio-waste regulation, no more than 1% may be included. This is done in the context of efforts to deal with organic waste more environmentally friendly.
The proven 80 liter and 120 liter bio-waste tanks are still available for households. Incorrectly filled biotons are no longer emptied and instead receive a sticker. At this point, the citizens have the opportunity to decide whether they want to sort the bin or have them disposed of as residual waste.new regulations for misfeeding
The fees for special empties are set: 16.66 euros for the 80 liter bin and 19 euros for the 120 liter tonne. It is interesting that from January to June 2025 404 misfilled tons have already been registered, but only in 59 cases a special emptying was used. Surprisingly, a whopping 80% of the incorrect spills were organic bags, which are considered a fabric. This makes it clear that there is still great potential for clarification.
The controls are continued, and repeated repeat offenders must also expect consequences. In the event of violations of the separation obligation, the bin remains until the waste is correctly sorted. The goal is clear: a bio -certified quality of the compost produced is to be achieved. Those who do not follow the guidelines even threaten a fine.
Expansion of controls
From autumn 2025, the focus is not only on the biotons, the content of the paper bins are also checked. Disruptions were also discovered here that could affect the quality of the materials delivered. These measures are part of a comprehensive approach to improve waste recycling and to protect the environment.
A relevant factor in waste recycling is the bio -waste regulation, which was last amended on April 28, 2022. It regulates the exploitation of treated bio waste and defines, among other things, requirements for pretreatment and examination, which are of great importance for a successful implementation of the waste management. Plastic collecting bags must be biodegradable and bear labels that indicate their suitability-an important measure to protect the environment, such as Environmental Pact explained.
From May 1, 2025, a new regulation comes into force that regulates the content of plastics in organic waste. This definition is intended to ensure that foreign substances, in particular plastics, are kept out of the bio-waste treatment processes if possible. This includes visual control when delivering organic waste. Anyone who violates these requirements can expect a fine, such as Federal Environment Ministry explained.
Overall, it turns out that the measures related to the bio -waste recycling do not know a standstill. The city administration of Cologne and the corresponding positions have a clear goal in mind: reducing the ecological footprint and optimal use of the recycling materials. For the citizens, this means that everyone is required to actively participate and to dispose of their own waste.
