Festival weeks in Jerichower Land: celebrate, remember and enjoy!
Hohenwarthe is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: the place has existed for 800 years, and that is being celebrated properly! The celebrations began on Thursday and will offer numerous events until Sunday. Particularly noteworthy is the parade that leads through the village to the sports field on Saturday mornings. An exciting children's festival awaits young and old with entertainment for all age groups. At the evening event in the sports hall on Saturday, visitors can look forward to an entertaining program. The culmination of the 800th anniversary celebrations will be an outdoor service on Sunday at 11 a.m., followed by a morning pint. If you would like to take part, you should get tickets in good time; information is available on 0170 / 824 16 12.
While Hohenwarthe celebrates, Gerwisch commemorates the devastating fire and reconstruction 200 years ago with a festival lasting several days. After a festive service on Thursday and an amusing theater performance on Friday, a large parade follows on Saturday. Not only clubs and companies show up here, schools and the fire department also take part! It will also be lively on Woltersdorfer Straße, where there will be a colorful market. The celebrations in Gerwisch culminate on Sunday with a morning pint at the community center, musically accompanied by the Gerwisch Shanty Choir at 10 a.m.
Living history and tradition
Loburg also has a reason to celebrate: the town looks back on 1,060 years of history, which will be honored with a parade through the streets on Saturday afternoon. History meets modernity - this is how numerous information stands from companies and clubs are presented, as well as demonstrations of traditional hunting horn players. In the evening, the band “Artcores” will further heat up the party mood, and here too there will be a morning pint at 10 a.m. with the Ziesar music association.
In Jerichow there is a city festival on the program that is entirely dedicated to the family. The city administration and the support and local history association organize numerous attractions such as a farm flea market, tours of the historic mill and exciting fire brigade demonstrations. A local walk with a local chronicler allows participants to delve into the past. In the evening, the band “Tick2loud” provides musical accompaniment and a good mood.
Off to the power party and more!
Güsen, on the other hand, has already had his 2025 power party at the open-air stage, a highlight of the year for many. Moderated by SAW presenter Warren Green, Wolfgang Ziegler's appearance was at the top of the list of attractions. On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Volksbank Family Festival at the sports field is a great opportunity to have fun and win great prizes. The highlight is the theme “Crooks' Tricks and Soul Music,” while regional officials provide tips on how to prevent fraud. Entry to this family event is free!
The Jerichower Land offers a colorful mix of celebrations and traditions that testify to the historical heritage of the region. Did you know that the area has been inhabited since the Ice Age? Archaeological finds, such as the Gerwisch hand axe, bear witness to the long-standing history of this unique area. The first written reports appeared in the 1st century, when the region was inhabited by Elbe Germanic tribes. An important example of Romanesque architecture, the monastery church of Jerichow, still bears witness to the cultural flourishing of the Middle Ages.
In the future, Jerichow Monastery will attract a new audience with its events. The Jerichow Summer Music Festival 2024 is planned, which will offer musical highlights such as the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach. An Advent market and numerous other cultural events also show the living heritage that the region has to offer and invite you to immerse yourself in the historical roots of the Jerichower Land.
For anyone who loves regional events, there is no reason to miss this festival. There is a lot on offer to delight both young and old hearts and to involve the community in the cultural events!
