Information event on integration: Opportunities for companies in Redekin!
At a time when companies in Germany are desperately looking for skilled workers, the integration of refugees and foreign workers is becoming increasingly important. Today an information event took place in Jerichower Land, organized by WelcomeCenter Saxony-Anhalt was organized in collaboration with the “Companies integrate refugees” network. The event offered a platform to provide important information on the legally secure integration of refugees into companies.
With the aim of both enriching companies and combating the shortage of skilled workers, the event provided information about the legal framework and the steps that must be taken before employing refugees. Participants also had the opportunity to exchange ideas about support options for companies during integration. The highlights of the program included a specialist lecture on the topic “Who is allowed to work and when?” as well as the exchange of experiences with regional companies.
Legal aspects and challenges
The integration of refugees not only brings with it opportunities, but also challenges. As the Federal Agency for Civic Education reported that in the past it often took longer for refugees to enter the labor market than for other immigrant groups. Although reforms such as the Asylum Process Acceleration Act and the Integration Act have simplified access, bureaucratic hurdles still exist.
In particular, refugees from safe countries of origin who applied for asylum after August 31, 2015 are faced with a ban on employment. Many refugees have not only acquired educational and professional qualifications in their country of origin, but have also gained professional experience. But the risk of foreign qualifications being devalued remains high, making integration more difficult.
Skilled workers and perspectives
The event also entered into the discussion about the labor market prospects of refugees. Current surveys show that many large companies see refugee immigration as an opportunity. With a view to future integration, internships and training are often the first step, while direct job offers are less common. However, language barriers and a lack of qualifications are a problem.
70% of those surveyed have already worked in their country of origin, but in Germany only 15% of men and 5% of women are integrated into the labor market. Language skills play an important role, as do employers' enjoyment of diversified teams and innovative approaches. The German Society for Personnel Management is actively involved in supporting these processes and offers assistance to companies that want to employ refugees.
Overall, today's event in Jerichower Land shows that progress is already being made towards integrating refugees into the German labor market, even if there are still many hurdles to overcome. However, the chances are high that well-educated and qualified refugees can make a valuable contribution to economic development if they are offered the right perspectives and support.
