An impressive trend is emerging in Saxony-Anhalt: the number of income millionaires has doubled within just five years. In 2021, 283 income millionaires were counted, which represents an increase of 31.0% compared to the previous year, as Magdeburger News reports. In 2017, this number was only 142.
But it's not just the number of millionaires that is causing a stir, the taxable income has also increased significantly. In 2021, millionaires in Saxony-Anhalt totaled 595.1 million euros, a huge increase of 119.7 million euros or 25.2% compared to 2020. Within five years, this income more than doubled, with an increase of 111.9%.

The average taxable income per taxpayer who is a millionaire was 2.1 million euros in 2021. This income was highest at 3.6 million euros in the Jerichower Land district, where the highest income tax per taxpayer was recorded at 1.3 million euros.
The income and annual wage tax to be assessed for income millionaires amounted to a total of 219.6 million euros in 2021, which corresponds to an increase of 41.6 million euros or 23.4% compared to the previous year. On average, every taxpayer with income worth millions paid around 0.8 million euros in income tax.
Cities and districts in focus
Where do all these millionaires live? One in three income millionaires lives in one of the country's three independent cities. These regions saw an increase of 29 millionaires to 99, while the counties have a total of 184 millionaires, an increase of 38.
The income of income millionaires comes predominantly from commercial operations, which make up the lion's share of 364.4 million euros. Self-employment also contributes significantly at 138.7 million euros, while employed work contributes 51.8 million euros.
