Saxony-Anhalt strengthens disaster protection with a new equipment truck!

In a significant step towards improving fire and disaster protection in Saxony-Anhalt, a new hazardous goods equipment vehicle (GW-G) was officially handed over in Jerichower Land today. This new vehicle, which will be stationed at the Genthin local fire department, is part of a comprehensive initiative by the state to strengthen the operational capability of the fire departments. The handover took place in the presence of Interior Minister Dr. Tamara Zieschang, who emphasized the important role of the device in disaster control. The new equipment trolley is specially equipped for ABC/CBRN operations (atomic, biological, chemical, radiological, nuclear) and will be available not only for hazardous goods operations, but also for inter-community operations in disaster control. With this new vehicle, the Genthin local fire department will be able to provide support to the ABC specialist service in the Jerichower Land district.

Investments in the future

Saxony-Anhalt shows once again that the safety of its citizens is very important. A total of 10.6 million euros are planned for fire protection in 2024, with more than 18.2 million euros already budgeted for 2025. The amount for 2026 alone will be almost 25 million euros, the highest in the history of fire protection funding. This financial support is crucial, especially considering the large number of companies and industrial settlements in Saxony-Anhalt.

A central measure is the promotion of new construction, expansion and conversion of fire stations. For example, in 2023 and 2024, 23 fire stations will be supported with a total of 14.1 million euros. From 2025, the state will return to funding 27 fire stations with state funds, which amounts to over 15 million euros. These investments not only make sense, but are necessary to keep the fire department's operational readiness at a high level.

Support from the country

The new construction and purchase of modern emergency vehicles play a key role in the efficiency of the fire department. As feuerwehr-halberstadt.de reports, the new vehicle was purchased as part of funding from the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the Harz district. The total cost is 800,000 euros, with the old vehicle being 36 years old being replaced. Interior Minister Zieschang spoke out clearly in favor of central procurement and thanked the members of the state parliament for their support.

The new GW-G in Halberstadt will also expand the fire department's diverse range of operations. Operations managers have already gained experience in operations involving hazardous materials in the past, including incidents involving radioactive materials and chemical substances. Safe handling of such challenges is now guaranteed thanks to the modern equipment of the new vehicle.

A strong network for disaster protection

The guidelines for disaster control in Saxony-Anhalt support procurement by private organizations, districts and independent cities. The relevant funding database describes that up to 80% of the permissible total costs can be funded. These measures make a crucial contribution to the safety and ability of emergency services to respond to serious situations.

With all of these measures and the ongoing support from the state of Saxony-Anhalt, it is clear that the future and security go hand in hand. The fire department and its equipment play an important role in prevention and in emergencies. In a constantly changing environment, it remains essential to have access to modern technology and well-trained staff.
