Jonas' life story: From a children's home to a happy foster family!
In Schlanstedt, where the fields stretch as far as the eye can see, 17-year-old Jonas looks back on a happy childhood. His first childhood memory is a bobby car race at a party with friends when he was four or five years old. Today, in 2025, Jonas has been living in a loving foster family for 15 years and cannot imagine growing up anywhere else. MDR reports that during this time Jonas not only experienced the feeling of security and home, but was also able to make wonderful friendships.
The bond with his foster family, led by Kathrin Kube, is of great importance to him. Jonas describes his childhood as “very beautiful” and finds the rural surroundings to be fantastic. Although he spent the first two years of his life with his biological family, he has no memories of this time. He is grateful that he did not grow up in a children's home, but in a loving home.
A commitment to the community
But Jonas is not alone in his fate. On October 3, 2024, the traditional bobby car race took place in Kalenborn, which many children and families also enjoyed. This event, which has existed since 2003, attracts large numbers of spectators every year. The Bobbycar Friends Kalenborn are committed to supporting families in need and have been able to collect a total of 42,000 euros for various non-profit organizations in recent years, such as Blick currently reported.
This year, a check for 4,000 euros was handed over to the “Be a Family – Stay a Family” association, which supports families with disabled and developmentally impaired children. Mayor Jung thanked the Bobbycar friends for their tireless voluntary commitment. By the way, the next race will take place on October 2nd and 3rd, 2025 and promises to be just as exciting.
A sustainable development
The bobby car races are not only a wonderful way to show community spirit, but also a testament to how local initiatives can bring about positive change. So as Jonas gets his driver's license and prepares to come of age next year, the importance of such events becomes increasingly clear. Not only do they help raise funds, but they also create a strong sense of togetherness.
The combination of sporting competition and social commitment is what makes these events so special. The example of Jonas and the Bobbycar friends shows that there are always opportunities to do good and help families in need. Cheers to the community supporting each other!
