In the Burgenland district, parents still have to wait for the new daycare center in Herrengosserstedt to open. The construction of the long-awaited kindergarten is delayed because important financial resources from the federal and state governments are blocked. As [Tagesschau] reports, the land for the project has already been purchased, but the construction project is still on the brink.
The current situation was discussed at a meeting of the local council “An der Finne” on Tuesday evening. The parents were again informed that it was unclear when construction work could begin. Although the daycare project is included in the current year's budget, it is blocked, which makes things more complicated.
Lack of funding and falling birth rates
The municipality currently lacks more than six million euros to build the new daycare center, which will offer space for up to 60 children. The current financial situation is caused by the falling birth rates, which means that there are no prospects of funding from the federal and state governments. As a result, the construction of the new daycare center remains on hold.
The construction project has been running since 2022 and the planning services have already been awarded. According to [Tenders Germany], a total of three offers were received, all from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These companies have shown great commitment to the tender, but the award of the contract remains up in the air because the financial resources are not yet secured.
The citizens are hoping for a speedy turnaround so that the urgently needed educational facility in Herrengosserstedt can finally become a reality. It remains to be hoped that those responsible will find solutions to clarify the situation as quickly as possible so that the volunteers and parents do not have to wait any longer.
