State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt: New laws for energy and funerals!

Today, September 11, 2025, it stands State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt before a crucial meeting. From 9:30 a.m., numerous laws will be on the agenda that affect both the topic of renewable energy and funeral culture. The new legislation could have a significant impact on the region's economic landscape and social conditions.

A central concern of the proposed legislation is the financial participation of municipalities and citizens in the creation of new wind power and photovoltaic open-space systems. According to the current plans, the communities should receive 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour from the newly built systems in order to ensure fair participation. Operators of repowering systems are also obliged to make appropriate payments, such as dpa Saxony reported.

Modernization and reduction of bureaucracy

Another important topic is the reform of the collective bargaining and procurement law. Economics Minister Sven Schulze announced that this reform would reduce bureaucracy and accelerate municipal investments. The thresholds for awards are to be raised to EU level, which should be particularly advantageous in the construction sector. This could provide a boost to the regional economy and enable investments from federal special funds, explained the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

In addition, a law on tuition-free training for podiatrists is expected in order to improve health care. There will also be changes in dental care by increasing the number of study places in order to counteract the shortage of dentists.

Burial law is changing

An equally important item on the agenda is the new burial law. This law provides for some important innovations. This gives parents who lose their child early in pregnancy the right to a burial for their so-called “star child”. This is an important step in giving affected families the opportunity to process their grief. It also makes it possible to use some of the ashes of the deceased for memorial diamonds, which previously often did not fit within the legal framework.

Another innovative aspect of the law is the introduction of the possibility of burial without a coffin for religious reasons. This shows a conscious step towards a more flexible and multicultural funeral culture that accommodates different traditions and beliefs.

Today's session of the state parliament could bring about far-reaching changes for Saxony-Anhalt and have a lasting impact on both the economic and social landscape of the region. It remains to be seen how the votes will go and which aspects will ultimately become law. Citizens can hope for exciting developments.
