Demolition of the Ring Bridge in Magdeburg: Start on Monday with livestream!

A major construction project is imminent in Magdeburg: the demolition of the ring bridge at Damaschkeplatz will begin on Monday, June 16, 2025. The construction site is being intensively prepared in advance, as the city administration recently announced. The demolition, which must be completed within a week, requires the use of ten excavators and is carried out in a two-shift system, around the clock, to ensure rapid execution. The first steps towards designing a fall bed began last week to protect the roads, lines and tracks under the bridge, reports MDR Saxony-Anhalt.

As Volksstimme notes, the demolition will be documented via livestream from 9 a.m. for those interested. However, cars and residents have to prepare for significant noise pollution and traffic disruptions until the end of June. “We ask for your understanding for the necessary work,” said a city spokesman.

Future prospects for Damaschkeplatz

After the demolition, the site will be cleared the following week, with around 3,000 tonnes of sand being removed, which has been piled up for safety. From August 1, 2025, the planned temporary bridges should be accessible in one lane in both directions. These temporary bridges are placed on the pillars and abutments of the old ring bridge. “The aim is to reopen Damaschkeplatz to all types of traffic as soon as possible,” explains the city administration.

In the long term, a complete replacement of the bridge is even being planned. The hope: a modern bridge that meets the requirements of a growing city and can also better manage traffic flows.

But there are bridge problems elsewhere too

Such infrastructure projects are unavoidable these days, even if they cause some short-term inconveniences. But ultimately a more modern transport infrastructure will be created in both Magdeburg and Hanau that is designed to meet the needs of the citizens.
