HSV young talent takes off: U21 with new coach and talent!
A bit of a breath of fresh air is blowing at Hamburger SV, because while the professionals relax during the summer break, the youngsters remain active. The U11 has warmed up for next Sunday against USC Paloma after the U12 and U15 can play in the Hamburg Junior Cup on Saturday. An exciting duel against TSV Sasel and FC St. Pauli awaits the young talents here. The U16 championship victory in the B-junior regional league is particularly pleasing - a sign that there is a lot going on at HSV in the youth sector. This is what HSV reported on its homepage: HSV splinter.
What's new with the U21? The team is starting to prepare for the 2025/26 season with great enthusiasm. After performance tests that took place on June 16th and 17th, the team held its first training session on the artificial turf field on campus on June 18th. The team will really get going with a first matchday in the Regionalliga Nord in July.
New coach and a breath of fresh air
A fresh coach is also at the start: Lukas Pfeiffer has taken over the reins from Soner Uysal and brings his experience with him. The former coach of VfB Lübeck led this team to the 3rd division in 2023 before leading the HSV U19s to the quarter-finals of the German championship. Pfeiffer knows where the talent lies. “The aim is to prepare players for the first team,” he emphasizes, adding that the campus offers an almost perfect environment for talent development. The new paths and structures should help to promote the further development of young players.
But not everything remains as it was: ten players have left HSV in the U21, including captain Milad Nejad. A clear change is coming here, which could, however, also bring new momentum. Players like Moritz Reimers and Davis Rath have already established themselves in the regional league and could also play a role in the future of the U21.
Step by step into the future
In general, it can be seen that youth work is becoming more important in German professional football. More and more Bundesliga clubs are looking beyond their borders and are investing in international youth players. A report from Monami HS Mittweida analyzes the current challenges and the possibility of improving the quality in the youth training centers. The German national teams – both in the adult and youth sectors – must regain their place at the top of the world. The HSV talents could play a crucial role.
There is also news for the HSV women's team: The license for the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga for the 2025/26 season has been successfully applied for. This is happening as part of an expansion of the league, and the HSV women can look forward to exciting encounters. The new season begins on September 6th and will be anything but boring thanks to its 26 game days.
With a clear focus on youth work and the integration of young talent, HSV is ready to take the next steps towards a successful future. The entire team is looking forward to the challenges ahead!
