New lifeboat Editha secures life on the Elbe in Magdeburg!

Magdeburg, Deutschland - On July 1, 2025, a new hope for water rescue in Magdeburg shines! As part of a ceremonial handover in Bad Nenndorf, DLRG Magdeburg e.V. received a modern lifeboat called "Editha". This new boat replaces the old emergency vehicle called Otto and was enabled by the German Parity Welfare Association with generous promotion of over 70%. A total of 30 rescue boats were distributed to DLRG local groups from all over Germany on this day. Magdeburger News reports that the entire financing was around 300,000 euros.

The "Editha" not only scores with a 30-hp motor, which is particularly used for strong currents on rivers, but also with a well thought-out material and fastening concept, which makes it an agile and effective lifeboat. Equipped with a high -quality lighting system, "Editha" will soon become an indispensable partner in the water rescue in the region. After the handover, the boat was already used on the Elbe in two missions, including a serious incident when searched for two missing people. [TAG24] (https://www.tag24.de/magdhaburg/editha-kre-hilf-hilfe-hil-in-in-magg-mag-meg-meg-wergerer-application-fuer-rescue boat-3398469) reports that the DLRG Magdeburg has already carried out an average of 16 missions per year and always on the valuable cooperation with the water protection police and can set the volunteer fire brigade.

volunteers intervene

The DLRG Magdeburg consists of around 35 volunteer forces, which regularly train and further train at Rötgerstraße 8 on a weekly training evening on Mondays at 6 p.m. The more committed hands get on board, the better the organization can perform its important task. In 2024, the DLRG was able to save 1,446 people nationwide from drowning, as a report by the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) shows. A total of 54,802 volunteers were active in Germany. DGOU emphasizes that the DLRG is dependent on the fact that citizens will continue to be involved in the organization in order to save human lives in the future.

The DLRG is more than just an emergency organization - it also takes care of swimming training, looks after over 1,200 swimming pools and freedom and fights against the dangers of water residence, especially for older people, of which around 60 percent of the drowned people were over 55 years old last year. It is therefore of great importance to continue to rely on prevention and clarification.

With the new boat "Editha", DLRG Magdeburg once again shows that it has a good knack for the needs of water rescue. The commitment and the constant training of volunteers are the key to their success and guarantee that life can be saved in the future.
