SC Magdeburg triumphs: 45:27 victory brings them into the quarter-finals!
The handball fans in Elsenfeld were able to look forward to a real shooting festival on Wednesday evening. SC Magdeburg celebrated an impressive victory in the round of 16 of the DHB Cup against TV Großwallstadt with 45:27 (23:11). This means that Magdeburg will advance to the quarter-finals, which are scheduled for December 17th and 18th, 2025.
In the sold-out Untermainhalle, the Magdeburgers made it clear right from the start that they didn't want to let anything go wrong. After just four minutes they were already leading 3-0 and were not disturbed by a brief rebellion from the hosts. In the 10th minute, Magdeburg was ahead 7:5, but SC promptly responded with a 3:0 run and extended their lead.
Dominance over the entire game
The Magdeburgers played themselves into a frenzy and led 14:7 in the 20th minute. Sebastian Barthold and Magnus Saugstrup were particularly strong, scoring decisive goals and pushing the opponent onto the defensive. In the 26th minute it was Saugstrup who laid the foundation for another lead with goals 21 and 22. Supported by Omar Ingi Magnusson, the team increased the lead to 23:11 just before halftime.
The second quarter of the game was similarly dominant. After just four minutes, Magdeburg increased the gap to 25:15 and continuously increased their lead. Albin Lagergren shook the hall in the 43rd minute with his goal to make it 32:17. Daniel Pettersson concluded a strong team performance with 40:23 in the 53rd minute.
On to the next round
The fans cheered and the players celebrated because the quarter-finals are now within reach. The draw for the matches will take place after the game between Füchse Berlin and ThSV Eisenach on Thursday at 7 p.m. In this exciting phase of the competition, every opponent can cause surprises and SC Magdeburg will do everything they can to make a good impression in the quarter-finals.
A total of 2,500 spectators watched the spectacle while referees Julian Köppl and Denis Regner officiated the game. The numbers from the game impressively show Magdeburg's dominance: from a 4:1 in the 5th minute to a 37:22 to the final score of 45:27.
