Saxony-Anhalt trains young talents: tax offices are looking for new talent!

The tax administration in Saxony-Anhalt has made its plans more concrete: In times of demographic change, young talent is urgently needed. From the training year 2025, the training for prospective financial economists will gradually be relocated to Magdeburg, where a new training location will also be built on the university campus. This is reported by Stern, who informs that 24 trainees and 22 students were already working in tax administration in 2022. However, the need has increased significantly as it is predicted that around 200 candidates will be needed annually by 2026, with this number increasing to around 240 by 2030.

For the current 100 new entrants in this training year, the journey begins with a celebratory welcome from the responsible people such as Finance Minister Michael Richter (CDU) and University Rector Jens Strackeljan. The theory is taught on the Magdeburg campus, while the practical training takes place directly in 14 different tax offices in the country.

Diverse training opportunities

But it's not just training that's an exciting topic. Student interns have a great opportunity in the 14 tax offices in Saxony-Anhalt. Here, young people can immerse themselves directly in their daily work and gain important insights into financial management. Internships are offered in cities such as Magdeburg, Halle (Saale) and Stendal. These internships not only promote career orientation, but also provide valuable information about taxes and tax returns. In detail, the tasks of the tax offices include, among other things, the administration, determination and collection of taxes, checking tax returns and carrying out tax audits in companies. Mario Zehner is the contact person for those interested in a student internship.

The Saxony-Anhalt financial administration is not only responsible for training, but also receives sustained support from the federal government, which is pursuing a broad approach with its demographic strategy “Every Age Counts”. This strategy aims to secure the skilled workforce in the administration. The demographic change, caused by the impending retirement of the baby boomer generation, will drastically change the personnel structures in public administration. It is therefore essential to attract new talent to the administration and secure existing knowledge to ensure a smooth transition.

The way into the future

In order to address this change, the Federal Ministry of the Interior is developing measures to safeguard demographics in the federal administration. In this context, we are also working on a concept for securing knowledge in order to minimize the loss of know-how due to age-related departures. In addition, dialogues between employers and employees should be promoted, which not only benefits the employees, but also ensures a modern and attractive working environment in public administration.

The clear steps towards the training offensive and the support through nationwide strategies offer Saxony-Anhalt the opportunity to go into the future well prepared. This makes it all the more important to find young talent and get them excited about a career that is not only truly interesting, but also of great social relevance.
