Children explore the nightingall oasis: Experience and protect nature!

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, 21 children of the “Ratzefummel” ceremony from Schönebeck experienced an unforgettable adventure in the NABU district association Salzlandkreis. This was not just about fun, but also about experiencing domestic nature up close and learning a lot about the habitats of domestic animals. The children who are in grades 1 to 4 explored the near -natural surface and got to know the "residents" of this oasis - including hedgehogs, mice, bees and foxes. As reported iebeck.de, there was also a group work on the plan that enabled exciting discoveries and knowledge about nature.

A special highlight was the natural game in which the children were able to identify the different “apartments” of the animals. They not only learned playfully through biodiversity, but also got a feeling for the importance of the habitat in which they moved. In addition to learning, there was also a practical contribution: the children helped fill up the water points in the oasis in order to secure the animals an important water access, especially in dry times.

commitment to nature

The NABU district association Salzlandkreis thanked the children and their caregivers for their commitment. "Such actions are important in order to sensitize children at an early stage to environmental education and nature conservation," said a representative of the association. The invitation was pronounced to carry out similar projects in the oasis to other schools, day care centers, daycare centers or hoards. The aim of these efforts is to promote environmental education and at the same time enable practical nature protection.

But what makes NABU so special? The Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V., founded in 1899 by Lina Hähnle, is the oldest and strongest environmental association in Germany, currently with around 960,000 members. The NABU can be relied when it comes to the protection of endangered species, the design of habitats and the promotion of a natural energy transition. Around 70,000 volunteers in over 2,000 local groups are committed to nature and environmental protection and do remarkable 2.5 million hours of free work every year.

Together for a sustainable future

But the NABU is not only in the hallway: In addition to other relevant organizations, there is also the BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) and the German Environmental Aid (DUH), which are campaigning for ecological politics and environmentally friendly technologies. The NABU is specifically committed to the environmental education of children and adolescents. This is done in over 1,000 groups nationwide and offers young people the opportunity to actively participate in nature conservation.

The importance of these initiatives cannot be assessed highly enough. The promotion of environmental education and practical nature conservation projects will be responsible for future generations and sensitized to the challenges of our time. Only together can we move something and make a difference for our nature.

interested institutions have the opportunity to report to the Salzland district of the NABU district association in order to launch similar projects in the future. Together for the environment - that should be our goal!
