5000 liters of water per minute: Fire brigade fights against flooding in Werben!

In Werben in the Altmark, repair work on a deep well caused significant problems. During the work, damage occurred, causing an impressive water fountain debacle. Water escaped at a pressure of around 1.2 bar, estimated at around 3,000 liters per minute. This posed a great danger to the city as there was a possibility of flooding. The rapid deployment of the fire brigade and the Technical Relief Agency (THW) was therefore essential. Around 50 emergency services were on site to defuse the situation and prevent further damage.

The measures included draining the water over eight long stretches of hose to quickly reduce the pressure. The emergency services did everything they could to ensure that the situation remained under control and that the Hanseatic city was not under water. The plan is to last until the evening, while the fire brigade works at full speed to minimize the danger, reports MDR.de.

Such quick reactions are not only necessary in advertising. In other parts of Germany, the fire brigade and THW are often on hand to prevent flooding. A current example shows how a dam broke in the town of Appenweiler near Friedrichshafen, which was caused by heavy rain. The fire brigade and THW were also deployed here with a two-day pumping operation to protect the place from the water. During this operation, around 30,000 liters per minute were pumped out for over 30 hours Schwäbische.de.

Such challenges show how important preventive measures and quick reactions are to unforeseen natural events. The local emergency services have to prove again and again that they have a good hand when it comes to ensuring the safety of citizens. We can only hope that the emergency services in Werben can quickly regain control and limit the damage.
