Outdoor pool advertising: Despite criticism, a popular attraction in the summer!
The summer heat has Cologne firmly under control, and what could be nicer than cooling off in the outdoor pool? Every year, numerous swimming enthusiasts are drawn to the city's outdoor pools. A favorite place is the Werben outdoor pool, where Marianna Schulz, Marion Märten and Brigitte Kusch have been swimming every day during the summer for around 20 years. These women, who usually swim for up to an hour, describe how beautiful it is in the outdoor pool and in their comments refer to the negative reports that have recently not put the location in the right light. This public unrest stands in contrast to the approximately 400 people who visited the outdoor pool after a heat wave last week, as Volksstimme reports.
But what makes an outdoor swimming pool an attractive destination? A well-thought-out marketing strategy can make the difference here. Planning a campaign is crucial in order to reach the right target groups and set positive accents. As Young Enterprises explains, this begins with an initial meeting in which wishes and goals are discussed. A non-binding offer follows and once accepted, project work begins. Regular updates and the implementation of advertising measures ensure that everything goes according to plan.
Popularity of outdoor pools in trend
The summer of 2025 shows that interest in domestic leisure destinations remains high, which is reflected in the numbers: 29 percent of Germans plan to spend their vacation in their own country and 27 percent go swimming or bathing at least once a month. A look at the pool atlas shows that there are over 3,000 pools in Germany, including 2,416 purely outdoor pools. Particularly exciting is TUI's current outdoor pool ranking, which lists over 1,400 popular outdoor pools. The rating is based on Google reviews and offers an interesting insight into leisure activities throughout Germany, as TUI reports.
North Rhine-Westphalia, where Cologne is located, is not insignificant: the Seaside Beach Baldeney in Essen comes in fifth place among the best outdoor pools in Germany, followed by other bathing spots worth seeing. Bavaria tops the list with twelve outdoor pools in the top 25, while the popularity of day trips has increased over the last decade. In times when a refreshing break has become rare, outdoor pools are more in demand than ever.
Overall, it shows that the Werben outdoor pool and other bathing areas in the area are good places to go for hot summer days, despite the negative reporting. The combination of a successful marketing strategy and an attractive range of leisure activities ensures that swimming in the outdoor pool remains a popular trend.
