Grieben's Mayor Rita Platte: The era is coming to an end!

A lot has happened at the municipal level in the Altmark in the last few days. A particularly emotional farewell is imminent: the long-time mayor of Grieben, Rita Platte, will be leaving the Altmark. The native of Griebener grew up in the small community, spent her childhood there and returned after a time in Magdeburg with her own family. Their journey was marked by numerous challenges, particularly due to their daughter's health problems, which led to the family building their own home in Grieben. Rita Platte, never at a loss for her opinion, always went against the grain and was known for addressing uncomfortable topics, which often brought her into conflict with others. Nevertheless, she was elected mayor after the fall of communism and found professional fulfillment in this role by building up the community in Grieben and supporting clubs.

The developments during her time in office were often a double-edged sword. One of Platte's main criticisms was the regional reform, which brought with it many uncertainties and financial challenges. However, their last project, the sale of the manor house in Grieben, failed due to the requirements of the state administration office, which called for a tender and considered the asking price to be too low. The unified municipality of Tangerhütte has no choice but to carry out a new, Europe-wide tender in order to possibly continue to sell the manor house.

Dealing with vacant housing

In addition, it is planned that six new two-room apartments with balconies will be built at Schönwalder Chaussee 25. In this way, the city is responding to current needs and at the same time creating new, modern living space. The apartment block at Chausseestraße 17–17b in Grieben is also to be dismantled and renovated, as only half of the 26 residential units are currently occupied. While the municipal housing association (SWG) is using its own funds for the renovations, the administration is also looking for additional funding to support the measures that will take place in the coming months.
