Lok Stendal is crowned champion of the association league – Gardelegen has to be relegated!

On June 15, 2025, 1. FC Lok Stendal won the association football league in Saxony-Anhalt and thus secured the championship. The team secured the title with a narrow 1-0 win in the exciting Altmark derby against SSV Gardelegen. Niclas Buschke provided the decisive moment with his goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time, which sent the approximately 512 spectators in the stadium into ecstasy. But while the Stendal team celebrated, the defeat meant relegation to the national league for Gardelegen, as they would have needed at least one point to stay in the league.

The game took place under intense conditions. Stendal had the advantage of the field, but initially struggled to overcome Gardelegen's well-organized defense. Despite several chances, the hosts were unable to take the lead for a long time. After the game, coach Jörn Schulz said how emotional the game was and that future challenges await the team in the top league.

The old club with new strength

1. FC Lok Stendal, a club with an eventful history, is currently impressively showing that it has come back strongly. The club's history originally goes back to BSG Lok Stendal, which played in the GDR league in the 1950s and 60s. Since then, the club has gone through ups and downs, including bankruptcy proceedings in 2006. But the return to the top league in 2017 and the current championship title underline the club's positive development.

The Saxony-Anhalt Association League, which has existed since 1990, is the highest league in the state and has developed steadily over the years. The championship title not only means fame, but also the chance for higher-class football. Stendal also had to rely on help to push SSC Weißenfels out of first place, who couldn't get beyond a 1-1 draw in the decisive game against BSV Halle-Ammendorf.

A feeling of disappointment and hope

The disappointment at SSV Gardelegen was noticeable. Coach Nathanael Hopper congratulated Stendal, but reflected on the missed opportunities in the first half of the season, which ultimately led to relegation. Gardelegen was heartbroken after the game, but had to face reality while the Stendal team celebrated with their fans. An unforgettable moment for the supporters, even if there were no champion T-shirts available and no official honor was given by the Saxony-Anhalt Football Association.

The lineups were as follows:

SSV Gardelegen 1. FC Lok Stendal
Beautiful Poser
S. Beck sneakers
Kohlhas Mahrhold
Haak Schaarschmidt (79. Pfeiffer)
Gille (72nd scribe) Strong
Stehr Kashlaw (66th Salge)

F. Scheinert Ilschenko (66. Konieczny)
Helmuth Knobly

The extensive history of 1. FC Lok Stendal and the resurrection in the association league makes it clear that the club is much stronger than it sometimes seems. The fans can look forward to the upcoming league season.
