New project in Stendal: Strengthen democracy and unite society!

A new initiative is gaining momentum in Saxony-Anhalt! The “Mobilizing Democracy in the East” funding program was recently launched to strengthen social cohesion in the region. This is reported by the People's voice. The program focuses in particular on the cities of Magdeburg, Halle and Stendal and aims to give more weight to the values of democracy - such as tolerance, equality and respect.

The project coordinator Nanette Blasche organizes regular meetings in the “Plattenplayer” in Stendal-Stadtsee, which take place every second Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. At these meetings, not only discussions should take place, but also a shared breakfast should be offered. A public space where citizens’ ideas and wishes can be discussed – that is the aim of these meetings.

Citizens’ votes count

A central goal is to give a voice to particularly underrepresented districts. One example that was discussed was the demand for free bus transport for the residents of the city lake to the annual Roland Festival. Such suggestions should be brought into dialogue through the active participation of the participants. An exciting trip to the state parliament is also planned in October in order to talk directly to the decision-makers.

The Network for Democracy and Tolerance Saxony-Anhalt, founded on May 23, 2005, serves as support for such initiatives. The State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt is the patron, and the network now includes almost three hundred members from various areas of society, including clubs, churches and universities. This broad range enables comprehensive support for citizens' concerns.

Funding for a strong civil society

Various financial resources are available to support such projects. Information from the Federal Agency for Civic Education According to the report, there are numerous programs dedicated to preventing extremism and promoting democratic structures. The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the “Live Democracy!” program. are among the important funding opportunities for such commitments.

Overall, the new funding program not only shows the importance of democratic participation, but also how essential local meetings are to strengthen the voice of citizens. Therefore, anyone who is interested is encouraged to attend and have their say at the next meeting on June 25th at the Record Player. Let’s get to it!
