Stendal is cycling again: Win great prizes while cycling in the city!
Things will soon be going around again in Stendal – and on two wheels! From theAugust 18th to September 7thThe popular city cycling takes place for the third time. Here all cyclists have the opportunity to count their kilometers and win prizes at the same time. As the People's voice reports, the goal is clear: to cover as many kilometers as possible by bike in order to both show off your own bike style and help protect the climate.
City cycling is an international Climate Alliance campaign that has existed since 2008. It not only challenges local politicians, but is also aimed at creative cyclists in order to measure their own performance over a 21-day period between May and September. The best participants can look forward to attractive prizes, including bicycle accessories such as bags, helmets and locks. Anyone who tries to be a “city cycling star” – that means giving up the car for 21 days and just riding a bike – will also be rewarded.
Recent successes and challenges
The past few years have brought Stendal several successes. In 2023, the city was named “Best Newcomer” among comparable locations and was able to compete892 registered cyclistsand about154,000 kilometersproduce proud results. In 2024 there were still767 participants, which almost129,000 kilometersput back. A coming and going where the question remains: How many participants will get on their bikes this year?
City cycling doesn't just offer the opportunity to collect kilometers. Through the developed as part of the project RADar reporting function! Citizens can be made aware of weak points in the cycling infrastructure, which can then be analyzed and optimized by municipalities. This not only sensitizes cyclists, but also ensures that politicians test the existing cycle paths on site and initiate improvements if necessary.

After registering, the kilometers cycled can be tracked free of charge using a special app that also collects anonymized data for scientific purposes.
