Gymnastics camp in Osterburg: The summer highlight for young gymnasts!
A gymnastics camp was held again this year at the Osterburg State Sports School, a hotspot for gymnastics enthusiasts, which is open to members of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) aged 7 and over. Organized by the dedicated trainer Mareike Opper, the camp has developed into a real magnet for competitive athletes as well as amateur athletes. MDR reports that ...
What is particularly pleasing is the mix of different performance levels in the camp, which enables the participants to learn from and inspire each other. Squad athletes benefit from the opportunity to discover new aspects of gymnastics in a relaxed atmosphere and to train more intensively than is possible for them in their home club. The participants also include talented athletes such as 11-year-old Anna Hellrung from Lower Saxony and 13-year-old Sophie Rögner from Thuringia, who recently took 7th place in the all-around competition in performance class one at the Germany Cup. Both gymnasts are not only athletic, but also real role models for the younger ones.
A full program
The camp is known for its rigorous training, which lasts over 6 hours every day. The gymnasts are looked after by six experienced trainers from different regions who help them to further improve their performance and to specifically train gymnastics elements DTB reports that....
But performance is not only shown in training - fun is also the focus of the supporting program. The numerous activities and the good atmosphere in the hall promote team spirit and community among the athletes. This year the camp was fully booked within a very short time, which shows how high the interest in these events is. Anyone who was unable to secure a spot now can sign up on waiting lists for future camps.
A successful tradition
The gymnastics camp in Osterburg looks back on a successful history. It has been very popular since 2015 and is expecting over 90 gymnasts from ten federal states and Luxembourg this year. Mareike Opper, who has led the camp since 2012, has managed to create an atmosphere that is both performance-oriented and suitable for recreational gymnasts. This successful combination is crucial, especially since many other camps have been closed due to different challenges MDR reports that....
The increasing popularity of gymnastics in Germany is also being promoted by the increasing popularity of trampolines and air track tracks, which make the sport particularly exciting for younger people. The camp is financed by the regional association, which also ensures the long-term continued existence of the gymnastics camp offering.
