Burglary, accidents and drugs: chaos on Saxony-Anhalt's streets!

On November 11th and 12th, 2025, several incidents occurred in the region around Kropstädt and Wittenberg, which attracted the attention of both the police and citizens in the area. The officers reported a burglary, various traffic accidents and a case of drug driving.

In Kropstädt, a single-family home on Jahmoer Strasse was the target of unknown perpetrators on November 11th. Between 8:30 a.m. and 6:39 p.m., the burglars forced their way into the house and ransacked the cupboards. It is not yet clear whether anything was stolen, but the residents are in deep shock. Such incidents do not leave us indifferent and encourage people to pay more attention to their neighborhood and to take a look at the safety of their own four walls.

Traffic accidents are increasing

Parallel to the criminal cases, there were several traffic accidents, all of which occurred on November 11th and 12th. The first report concerns a 41-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz whose vehicle left the road on Selbitzer Dorfstrasse at 2:26 p.m. and damaged a flower pot. Another incident occurred around 5:33 p.m. when a 28-year-old Jaguar driver collided with a deer on the L 132. Property damage was caused and the deer fled.

On the same day, a serious accident also occurred when a 51-year-old driver of a Honda lost control of his vehicle at 10:20 p.m. while apparently under the influence of alcohol. He missed the roundabout and crashed into an electric fence. The breath alcohol test showed a level of 2.05 per mille, which not only resulted in a hospital stay but also the initiation of further legal action. The car was towed and police are continuing to investigate.

Unfortunately, the next event on November 12th was no less worrying: a 39-year-old Skoda driver collided with a 12-year-old cyclist in Jessen at 6:43 a.m. The child was slightly injured, and here too the damage to both vehicles is not negligible. Such incidents call for caution and raise the question: How safe are our roads for the vulnerable?

Drugs in traffic

Another real hammer was released on November 11th in Wittenberg when a Hyundai driver tested positive for cocaine during a check at 3:10 p.m. Despite his claim that he had not consumed drugs, a blood sample was ordered and his vehicle was searched. The officers seized a one-hand knife, but did not find any other narcotics. This measure shows how seriously the issue of drug driving is taken. According to the ADAC, drug use poses a huge threat to road safety, and penalties can range from fines to several years in prison, especially if they endanger road traffic or in accidents.

The dark field study by the Board of Trustees for Road Safety (KFV) from 2023 shows that an estimated 250,000 people drove a vehicle under the influence of drugs. This is an alarming figure, especially considering that only around 3% of cases are actually reported. It remains to be hoped that through increased controls and education, as demanded by the ADAC, the number of drivers affected will decrease and safety on our roads can be guaranteed.

It remains exciting and challenging to keep track of road safety. Despite our best efforts, we all as a society must work to create a safe environment. This is the only way we can prevent more such tragic incidents from happening in our region.
