Waldbrand in the Harz: Fire Brigade brings flames under control at Thale!
In the picturesque Bodetal near Thale in the Harz, a forest fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon has largely been deleted. This fire, which spread over an area of around 2,000 square meters, mobilized numerous emergency services that were able to successfully control the major fire. The fire brigade was supported by the use of a fire aircraft that came from the Harz district and regularly promoted water to fight the flames. The fire could finally be circled and deleted by evening.
Around 150 to 190 firefighters from Thale and surrounding communities, such as Harzgerode, were in action -charged for hours in order to continue to monitor the embers at night. This effort took place under difficult conditions in a difficult to access terrain, southeast of the fir head. The extinguishing aircraft, which was refueled in Hasselfelde, was under the constant pressure to throw water every 20 minutes, without fire inhibitors for additional support.
strong smoke and security measures
Large clouds of smoke were visible via Thale, which led to the warning by the emergency services. Passers -by were asked to avoid the area due to the strong smoke development. In addition, the street between Thale and Friedrichsbrunn was closed to ensure the safety of the population. Thanks to the active support of a family on site, which provided the emergency services with a large box of ice cream, the long dry spell for the firefighters was somewhat easier.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but the danger situation in the region is considerable. The forest fire threat index (WBI) shows the second highest risk level (level 4) in this area. This applies not only to the Harz National Park, but also to the district of Wittenberg, which even has the highest level. It is therefore clear that the weather conditions are currently a very special challenge. It is important to keep an eye on the meteorological potential for forest fires, especially in the months from March to October when the risk of forest fire is highest.
In view of the persistent danger, the authorities are required to issue warnings and take precautions. The team of the German Weather Service continues to provide information about possible developments and is available to advise the state authorities. It is to be hoped that fewer forest fires in the region will break out in the future and the landscape and nature of the beautiful resin can thrive in peace.Further details on the forest fire threats and current information can be found on the pages of the German Weather Service
