Wildlife accidents and internet fraud: Wittenberger worried about identity

The events in Bad Schmiedeberg and Wittenberg on July 8th and 9th, 2025 show once again that the challenges in everyday life are diverse. Whether it's damage to property or attempted fraud on the internet - there are always stories that come to light and affect people.

On July 8th, a Mini car was significantly damaged in a parking lot on Moschwiger Strasse. The crack in the windshield is not only annoying for the owner, but has also led to the initiation of an investigation into property damage. Unfortunately, as we hear, such incidents are not uncommon and raise the question of what we can do to better protect ourselves.

Internet Fraud: A Growing Problem

At least since the incident with a 51-year-old from Wittenberg who was scammed on the sales platform mobile.de on July 9th at 12:08 p.m., it should be clear to everyone how important data protection is. After submitting a copy of his ID card for authentication, fraudulent activity occurred during the payment process. The injured party was able to confirm the suspicion of fraud by contacting the person whose copy of the ID was sent. This leads to the pressing question: How do we protect our personal information online? The consumer advice centers offer free advice and give tips on how to protect yourself from identity misuse. If necessary, written out-of-court legal representation can also be sought, although not for all legal issues. Lower Saxony Consumer Center highlights various types of identity abuse and makes it clear that sensitivity to this area is urgently needed.

Cybercrime is not an isolated incident, but rather a constantly growing problem. According to the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), monthly information is provided about incidents and statistical reports on cyber security in Germany. These reports show that protecting against unauthorized access and impersonation is a task that must be taken seriously. The BSI offers valuable resources to better understand how you can protect yourself and which measures make sense.

Accidents and their consequences

As always, the streets around Bad Schmiedeberg are also the scene of unexpected accidents. There were two wildlife accidents on July 9th, both of which resulted in property damage to the vehicles. At around 4:14 a.m., a 23-year-old Audi driver noticed a deer crossing the road. Despite all precautions, he could not avoid a collision. Also in the morning, a 52-year-old Renault driver was surprised by a deer. Despite emergency braking, a collision occurred, which shows how unpredictable nature can be.

Another incident also occurred on July 9th at 10:45 a.m. when an 85-year-old driver collided with a parked Citroen while pulling out of a parking space on Straße der Freiheit in Wittenberg. Here, too, the vehicles did not remain unscathed. Such incidents bring not only financial but also emotional burdens that need to be dealt with.

Recent events present not only challenges for regions, but also opportunities to support each other and grow stronger. Whether through education, safety measures, or community responsibility—as the saying goes, together we are strong.
