S25 expansion delayed: Hennigsdorf-Nord is getting new train station!

Hennigsdorf, Deutschland - The expansion of the railway line between Velten and Neuruppin will be delayed again, which also affects the planned extension of the S-Bahn line S25 from Hennigsdorf to Velten. Loud maz-online.de This extension, which has been discussed for decades, is affected by several shifts. However, Mayor Ines Hübner (SPD) has confirmed that the target concept for the S25 extension has already been decided.

The implementation of the S25 extension is estimated to be at least ten years. Elke Krokowski, spokeswoman for the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB), refers to a possible implementation of the second construction level until the mid-2030s. Funding by the federal government and the country plays a crucial role in the schedule of work.

planned infrastructure measures

The construction work on the S-Bahn line includes the construction of a new middle platform at Velten station and are part of a larger project to expand the network of route in northwestern Brandenburg, which also provides for a new Hennigsdorf-Nord train station near a residential area. In order to meet the changed requirements, a conversion of the existing Hennigsdorf train station is required, as the S- and regional train can no longer share a track.

In addition to the current developments, the expansion of the Prignitz Express (PEX) in northwestern Brandenburg is a central part of the I2030 project. This comprises a total of 180 kilometers of rails in nine corridors that are to be optimized and reactivated. Information on this can be found in a long -term perspectives for rail transport

The overall project i2030, whose partner the state of Brandenburg, the state of Berlin, Deutsche Bahn and the VBB are, aims to sustainably improve the rail infrastructure. One of the first measures was the reconstruction of the Heidekrautbahn, the regional train operation of which is expected to start at the end of 2024 and is operated with environmentally friendly hydrogen, which comes from 100% locally obtained renewable energies.

However, the complexity of the projects requires time for planning and construction. VBB, one of the largest transport associations in Europe, covers the traffic needs in the region with its rail transport (SPNV). The state of Brandenburg acts as a task authority for the SPNV and in 2021 provided a budget of around 540 million euros for local public transport, which is largely planned for rail projects.

The plans for the expansion of the S-Bahn line S25 and the expansion of the PEX show that Brandenburg continuously works on a modern and sustainable rail infrastructure to improve commuters and travel in the region.
