Munich sets sign: CSD 2025 fights against queer -anti -queer violence!
The Munich Pride Weeks 2025 are just around the corner, and the motto "Liberté, Diversité, Queerité" could not be more suitable in view of the latest developments. Munich.t-online reports of an alarming increase in queer-fine attacks in the city, with the city "Strong", which recorded a total of 289 incidents in 2024. This is an increase of 59 compared to the previous year. The reports reported include discrimination, threats, insults as well as sexual violence and serious bodily harm. While the state government reported 177 crimes for 2024, many affected people show their abuse out of fear or distrust of the authorities.
Dominik Krause, the second mayor of Munich, emphasizes the need for solidarity in society. Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) has again taken over the patronage for the upcoming Christopher Street Day (CSD). In addition, Diana Horn-Greif, the managing director of LesCommunity, warns of the far-reaching consequences of queer-anti-narrative.
extended security measures
In order to counteract the increasing threat, the CSD plans to introduce an extended security concept. A traffic light system is intended to help steer the flow of visitors. Despite the increasing security costs, the event receives financial support from the city of Munich. Over 200 groups are expected for the political parade on June 28th. Queer artists will appear on several stages, including a new drag and slam stage on Wittelsbacherplatz. In total, more than 80 events are planned in the Pride Weeks, including concerts, parties, exhibitions and services. A special highlight will be the street festival at Marienplatz with an awareness and inclusion concept.
The CSD season 2024 has already started, and over 200 events are planned nationwide by October. However, a worrying trend is also evident in other cities where right -wing extremist groups are increasingly mobilizing against CSDs. Bachhausen informs about 32 registered rallies of right-wing extremists against CSDs in cities such as Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig and Cologne. These groups often appeared in an aggressive manner and shy participants. In Bautzen, for example, around 1,000 participants faced 700 right-wing extremists, which led to the cancellation of the CSD closing rally for safety reasons.
anti -Semitic and anti -queer narrative
The increasing political attacks on the LGBTQ+community are not an isolated case. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution not only observes an increase in queer-fine ideologies on the Internet, but also increased protests during the pride month. Groups that move in the right-wing extremist spectrum use the LGBTQ+movement as an enemy image to further spread racist and nationalist ideologies.
The anti-Woke discourse has gained influence in Germany and shows ideologies in the normalization of right-wing extremists, especially in structurally weak regions of East Germany. In addition, queer issues in political coalition contracts of the federal government are largely ignored, which further restricts the visibility and acceptance of queer lifestyles.
Despite these challenges, growing solidarity and support for the CSDs can be found. The demands for legal equality, acceptance and protection for LSBTIAQ+ are still strong and remain a central concern of the active and supportive of the LGBTQ+ movement.
