Bautzen is shaking: Fête de la Musique brings a variety of sounds to the streets!
On June 21st, Bautzen will become a sound oasis, because... Music Festival is celebrating a fantastic comeback. After last year's cancellation, music lovers can once again look forward to a colorful festival that aims to bring people together and celebrate the joy of music. Over 150 musicians of all styles have already registered for this special day and will perform at numerous locations throughout the city.
The performances are planned for the main market, Reichenstrasse, the forecourt of the Maria and Martha Church, the Cathedral of St. Petri, Schloßstrasse and the cultural garden of the Sorbian National Ensemble. From jazz to rock'n'roll to country, pop and metal - the musical diversity is huge. Highlights include the Tomello project circus with a family show on the main market and the big band from the Bautzen district music school, which will also create a great atmosphere at the event. The electro rock band “The Rock Complex” will also be on stage. A karaoke spot on Schloßstrasse, which runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., also offers the opportunity to get active yourself.
Invitation to all music enthusiasts
The city of Bautzen has invited all music enthusiasts to take part - from hobby musicians to professionals. There is the possibility of making music spontaneously and unaided on the street or using a permanent stage. Registrations for a stage slot are possible until April 30, 2025. Registrations can easily be submitted using the online form on the City of Bautzen website. However, there is no need to register for spontaneous performances of legitimate street music; only the applicable guidelines in this regard must be followed.
This year, the organizers are even expecting up to 20 additional active artists who could show up at short notice. The ecclesiastical element is also taken into account with cathedral vespers, which includes music, readings and prayers. This appeals to a broad audience and highlights the city's cultural diversity, while at the same time the city administration strives to meet all logistical requirements. However, traffic restrictions in the old town area must be observed due to the Bautzen Theater Summer taking place at the same time.
A global phenomenon
The Fête de la Musique has its origins in France, but has long since developed into an international phenomenon that is celebrated annually on June 21st in over 1,000 cities worldwide. More than 140 locations in Germany celebrate this festival, which serves to bring people together through music. In Bautzen, the festival aims to provide a platform for public music presentations and to actively support the city's culture, as confirmed by the Network of the Fête de la Musique. We can expect a variety of performances, ranging from small street concerts to impressive stage shows.
With the initial planning that began six months ago and the adoption of successful ideas from 2024, such as the popular karaoke spot, both the musicians and the organizers are looking forward to an event that is all about unity and the joy of music. The evening will be a festival of sounds and a meeting place for everyone who is enthusiastic about music. It remains to be hoped that the committed artists and the audience will experience an unforgettable day together and bring the magic of music to life on the streets of Bautzen.
