Brockenbahn in November: train cancellations and track work until November 27th!
The magical landscape of the Harz Mountains will be rounded off by a temporary narrow gauge in November, as the popular steam train rides on the Brocken Railway are facing significant restrictions. Again MDR reported, the Brockenbahn will only run on Fridays and weekends this month. The reason for the restrictions is urgently needed track work, which will last until November 27th.
The route between Schierke and the Brocken summit remains completely closed from Monday to Thursday. This is a major setback for many hikers and day-trippers who are looking forward to a drive to the highest point in the north to enjoy the breathtaking views. The connection between Wernigerode, Drei Annen Hohne and Schierke will also be temporarily affected by failures during this time.
Alternatives for passengers
Since no alternative transport is offered, travelers are recommended to use the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe bus line 264, which offers an alternative way to explore the region. However, on the weekends, from Friday to Sunday, it remains possible to take the steam train up the Brocken, which is a bright spot for most.
In addition to the Brockenbahn, there are also restrictions on the Selketalbahn and the Harzquerbahn. Traffic between Ilfeld Neanderklinik and Drei Annen Hohne will also be suspended until November 27th. And the same applies here: replacement buses are not in use.
Anyone who is in the region during this time should keep an eye on the circumstances and perhaps have a plan B in hand so that they can still enjoy the beauty of the Harz Mountains. When it comes to leisure and tourism in the region, you can look forward to the upcoming opportunities, which also exist off the rails.
