Construction work in Chemnitz: Two platforms closed – timetable changes!

Construction work on the central stop in Chemnitz will begin today, July 15, 2025, and will bring with it some changes for passengers. Due to necessary work on the switches, platforms 8 and 9 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. As a result, Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG (CVAG) had to adjust the timetable. Six lines are affected: tram lines 1 to 4 and bus lines 62 and 72. Departures now take place at different platforms and the routes have been partially changed, while some stops in the city center have been eliminated.

How Radio Chemnitz reported, passengers can access information about departures and stops on the CVAG website. It is particularly important to find out about the changed conditions before driving in order to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Affected stops in Chemnitz

In addition to the construction work at the central stop, there are other traffic changes that primarily affect the Neefepark stop. Important stops there such as Virchowstrasse, Ehrlichstrasse and Bahnstrasse are canceled. In return, however, stops such as Überflieger, Neefepark Nord and IKEA will be served additionally in order to improve accessibility for passengers.

The complete list of non-served and additionally served stops is clearly displayed on the CVAG website. The construction work on streets such as Stelzendorfer Straße and Nauwerckstraße not only affects local public transport, but also road traffic. The CVAG has therefore provided a graphic for better orientation so that passengers can quickly get an overview.

Traffic chaos and traffic jams

As the current construction sites in Chemnitz show, the large number of construction sites and diversions lead to traffic chaos, which is particularly noticeable in the evening hours.
