Empowerment brunch for girls: Self-esteem” in the spinning mill!
On Wednesday, July 2nd, young women and girls have the opportunity to promote their personal development with an exciting brunch in the Spinnerei at Altchemnitzer Straße 5a. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event is all about self-worth, self-image and self-efficacy. The entry price is just 2 euros, a real bargain for anyone who wants to exchange ideas and strengthen themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. The event is organized by the equal opportunities officer for the city of Chemnitz, Franziska Herold, and the Girls and Young Women Working Group in Chemnitz. Further information can be found here.
The program promises a lot of variety: a shared brunch, yoga, a Wendo taster course as well as creative workshops such as screen printing and jewelry making will be available to the participants. Physical well-being is also taken care of, with a menu ranging from buffets to smoothies and cocktails. The idea of networking is particularly important, as it aims to help girls and young women strengthen each other and further develop their personal skills.
Strengthening self-esteem
In Austria, similar approaches are being taken to promote the mental health of girls and young women. The “Self-Este+” project aims to counteract the growing fears and depressive symptoms in young people, who often come from poor backgrounds. Among other things, anonymous and free individual advice and workshops are offered to make girls aware of their strengths and to support them in their development. More information can be found here.
With a renewed focus on girls' empowerment through initiatives such as filia's program, the focus is on including young women in decision-making processes. Since 2012, the foundation has supported projects that aim to empower girls and teach them to recognize and defend their rights. Girls who are disadvantaged due to intersectional discrimination based on several social characteristics are particularly affected. The demand that they should be talked about without including them is being heard more and more. The program also trains in leadership skills and money management - skills that are extremely important in today's world. More details can be read here.
The brunch on July 2nd is not only an opportunity for social exchange, but also a step towards a future in which girls and young women can appear more confidently and raise their voices in society. If you would like to take part, you should definitely save this date!
