Heat record in Chemnitz: Rabenstein reservoir attracts thousands of bathers!

In Chemnitz, the heat wave of the last few days has become the topic of conversation. Yesterday, July 2nd, the hottest day of the summer gave thousands of people a relaxing summer day at the outdoor pool. It was more than crowded at the city's popular baths that evening, as the cooling in the waters attracted the crowds. Eissport- und Freizeit GmbH Chemnitz recorded an impressive 3,753 visitors to the Rabenstein reservoir, which was the second busiest day of the season for visitors. Only on June 22nd were there even more visitors, around 3,900 bathers. This is reported by the Free press.

If you look at the entire 2024 bathing season, there is a pleasing increase in the number of visitors to the Rabenstein reservoir. A total of 96,213 guests enjoyed the cool water this season, which is a positive result compared to previous years. In 2022 there were only 87,947 visitors and in 2023 there were even fewer with 84,737 guests. One reason for the increasing numbers is clearly the wonderful summer months and the multitude of events that attract families to the region. The 26th Chemnitz Kite Festival in particular will certainly have attracted many families. The bathing season opened on April 28th of this year, and the operators of the facility are pleased with the huge response Day24 reported.

Visitor numbers in comparison

The first results of the 2022 key figure survey show what visitor interests in swimming pools in Germany are basically like. This survey, which involved an average of around 320 pools, determined that the number of visits in 2022 was similar to that in 2019 despite the corona pandemic and the energy crisis. On average, around 42,000 guests came to outdoor pools, while combined pools had almost 187,000 guests and leisure and thermal baths had almost 192,000 guests. The costs of operating the pools have also increased - an indoor pool with a sports function, for example, causes annual costs of around 1.175 million euros. These trends are illustrated by an overview provided by the German Bathing Society (DGfdB) in its report thematised.

The numerous visitors not only enjoy cooling off, but also the diverse leisure opportunities that the pools offer. The increase in the number of guests in Chemnitz clearly shows how important access to refreshing water worlds is in the hot season.
