Art festival Begehungs” in Chemnitz: Interaction for the planet!
Things are really busy in Chemnitz right now! The art festival “Begehungen”, which is part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, is attracting everyone’s attention this year. Until August 17th, the audience can experience the fascinating works and installation parts that are entirely dedicated to the theme “Everything is interaction”. This thematic orientation is inspired by the famous natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt, who once said: "Everything is interaction. Nothing stands on its own, a common bond surrounds the entire organic nature."
A central goal of the festival is to make the complexity of resource consumption, species loss and the climate crisis visible. It acts as an inspiring place for new discourses, encounters and creative impulses. The exhibition at the Chemnitz-Nord thermal power station, Dammweg 10, shows 32 different artistic perspectives that address the social, ecological and economic consequences of environmental destruction.
Diverse artwork and interactions
The wide range of exhibits, which includes installations, photographs, drawings, sculptures and video artworks, provides variety and stimulates thought. A special highlight is a sound work of art in the former cooling tower of the thermal power plant. Here, the interaction between people and nature can be experienced in an impressive way. The organizers warmly invite visitors to actively participate in discussions about questions of justice and power as well as social crises.
Entry to this exciting festival is free, but donations are requested. The festival is open daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., providing ample opportunity to view the energetic projects and immerse yourself in the world of art.
Creativity as a response to global challenges
“Inspections” impressively shows that art plays an important role when it comes to addressing social and ecological issues. The artists bring their good skills to touch the audience with their work and make them think. Such festivals are not only a feast for the eyes, but also an opportunity to actively think about the challenges we face as a society.
With only three days left, it's high time to make your way to Chemnitz and not miss this engaging art project. If you would like to know more about this, you can find out more here. The “Begehungen” festival promises not only art, but above all, to provide space for encounters, exchanges and new approaches to dealing with current topics.
