Loud end for music on the Schlossteich: Nature conservation is going on!

In the past few days, a significant decision has been made in Chemnitz: from 2026, no music events are allowed at the Schlossteich between March and July. This regulation was introduced on the occasion, especially to protect the breeding birds based there. This was announced by the mayor Knut Kunze, at the request of the AfD parliamentary group. Special occurrences during the Kosmos-Festivals already had for Excitement caused when numerous birds were massively disturbed in their breeding season. Also in 2024 similar disorders were observed, which made the decision all the more urgent.

The city of Chemnitz has already announced a clear course for the coming year 2026. The castle pond, a popular event location, is now excluded in the sensitive breeding season of any music events. This happens in the hope of avoiding future disorders and protecting the local fauna.

The Kosmos Festival 2025-a great success

The Kosmos Festival 2025, which takes place from June 13th to 15th, 2025 at the Chemnitz Schlossteich, was a complete success with around 115,000 visitors-a new record! With more than 300 program items on over 70 stages that extended from Karl Marx Monument to the Konkordiapark, the festival inspires the people of the region. A highlight will be the appearance of the pop band July on Saturday evening, which takes place on the Kosmos stage from 9 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.

Capital of Culture European Program

The festival is part of the extensive program of Chemnitz as a cultural capital of Europe in 2025. Under the motto "C the Unseen", over 150 projects and more than 1000 events are planned that reflect the culture of the city and the variety of Europe. With 875 actors from 40 countries, especially from Eastern Europe, local stories and faces are to be linked to wider European narratives. In the coming months, the openings of exhibitions in the industrial museum and the art collections in Chemnitz are planned.

With a clear focus on the improvement of environmental conditions, the city wants to react to such factors earlier in the future and will examine new event areas for 2026. The castle pond becomes a protected place in the breeding season so as not to disturb the birds living there. In view of the challenges and opportunities associated with the cultural capital program, it will be exciting to see how Chemnitz will find the balance between cultural highlight and nature conservation.
