Summer festival of ESG Chemnitz: Celebrate 77 years of community!

A diverse program is offered on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the ESG, the move to the new ESG house and the 60th old friends meeting. These solemn days promise to become an important milestone for the community of students, graduates and interested guests. The Technical University of Chemnitz reports that a festive lecture by Dr. Uwe-Karsten Plisch and a festival service in the St. Petri Church will be. The ESG Chemnitz, which was founded in 1948 and held its first meetings in the parish hall of the St. Petri church community, has since developed into a central place for students in Chemnitz. Regular thematic evenings, Bible talks and services contribute to the living community. Pastor Dr. Markus Löffler, who has held the position of the Evangelical University and Student Pastor since 2023, invites all interested parties to these celebrations.

Church Cologne reports that the pastor Christiane Neufang focused on inclusiveness and ecological aspects of the newly renovated house for students. With the increase in the number of rooms from 75 to 103, it has developed into an inviting home for many students. The celebration was opened with a prayer in the garden that took place under the direction of Maximilian Stössel from the ESG choir.

The motto of the prayer was particularly impressive: "What does that want to be? Pentecost and the ESG - many peoples - many languages ​​- under one roof". Dr. Thorsten Latzel, President of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland, was also present and emphasized the importance of the community and social engagement in the ESG. Annette Klinke emphasized the intercultural and interreligious relevance of the ESG dormitories and encouraged the residents to actively participate in community life.

Evangelical student communities (ESGS) not only offer a platform for the exchange between students, but also numerous programs for support during their studies. EKHN emphasizes that ESGS are a point of contact for students who have to reorient themselves, and offers a variety of offers that are available on various topics such as social competence and intercultural communication go out. Membership in the ESGs is open to everyone, regardless of their own religious affiliation.

Every semester is set a new focus, often with the help of shaping students themselves. Actions and programs of the ESGS aim not only to manage stressful situations, but also to promote a strong community.
